Meet Crystal Jenkins, an insightful, experienced REALTOR® with the business and financial savvy to help homebuyers navigate today’s challenging housing market.

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Crystal got a dual degree in finance and economics at Winston Salem State University in North Carolina. Then, after graduation, she moved to the northern Virginia area to begin her career in the banking industry.

For several years, Crystal worked as a commercial loan officer, bank branch manager and call center manager. Eventually, she put all her skills and expertise into a new role training mortgage loan officers for a nationally renowned credit union.

Of course, when the pandemic hit in 2020 and her family began to grow, Crystal realized she needed to take a step back and reassess her career goals. And she decided to get into real estate to leverage her many years of experience in finance. Plus, Crystal and her husband deeply believe in the importance of home ownership for middle- and working-class Americans. It’s also a big reason why she and her husband decided to buy two rental properties…in addition to buying their family home in Catonsville.

Crystal says, “I feel very passionate about helping people in my community purchase homes of their own. Because without a doubt, home ownership is the greatest means of building net worth in America today.”

As a full-time agent with The Bob & Ronna Group, Crystal has three key pieces of advice to help clients get into the perfect home and start growing their own net worth…

“First, I’m an economist at heart. So, I tell my clients they should think of themselves as investors…not just home buyers. They really need to use their logic instead of their emotions. And they need to look hard at the numbers…and make sure they crunch.”

Second, Crystal says, buyers need to look for “value” in potential homes they’re considering. “So, we really look closely at the comps and appraisals in the area. It’s such an important piece. They also need to understand that some things on their wish list—such as modern appliances—don’t really add that much value to a home.”

Third, Crystal says homebuyers need to envision a property’s long-term potential. “For example,” she says, “sometimes a client will walk into a house and cringe right away at the carpet or wall color. But that’s something that can easily change…as long as the home has good value.”

When not exploring homes around Maryland, Crystal spends a lot of time volunteering and leading worship at Bethany United Methodist Church in Ellicott City, where her husband serves as Worship Pastor. She also supports her father-in-law’s church in Baltimore City in many different philanthropic endeavors. Throughout the week, she stays busy shuttling their three kids and their niece and nephew at baseball games, dance classes and choir practice. And she also tries to visit her parents, who still reside in Brooklyn, NY whenever she can.
